Stop and smell the roses
Emily tells a story about her father walking to work everyday, and how he would take the time to stop and smell the roses. She tells this story to remind me, and herself, to take the time to be mindful. But there is more to stopping to smell the roses than enjoying the moment.
When you stop to smell the roses, admire a bird that is taking a break from its flight, or watch dogs in the park interact with one another - you are allowing yourself to be immersed in something outside of yourself. You are taking the spirit of the act, and embodying it.
A simple moment being outside your mind, outside of your own body, and into the soul of the world. Jung would call this place the collective unconscious, while others would call it ‘Being in Flow'.’ Whatever you call your experience, know that it is uniquely yours, and a true place that can help frame your day.
So take the time to stop and smell the roses. This brief encounter with the divine may be just what you need to set your day on the right path.
